Six Police Officials suspended ‘undemocratically’ in Tripura after Congress Women agitators protested before CM’s quarter

AGARTALA / NEW DELHI, May 22 (TIWN): Months after Chief Minister Biplab Deb led Home Dept ordered arrests of unemployed youths for protesting before Chief Minister’s residence and police’s illegal firing on Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) at Jirania, now BJP Govt has taken another undemocratic action by suspending 6 police officials after a group of Women Congress activists protested before Chief Minister’s residence. This action has once again erupted resentment among Govt officials and oppositions, raising question, whether protesting against crimes have become illegal in Tripura ? Before Assembly Election 2018, BJP with huge group led by National BJP Secretary Sunil Deodhar had gheraoed the then Chief Minister Manik Sarkar’s quarter for whole day stopping the former CM’s movement, but the previous Govt had allowed the opposition to protest and also set barricades, gave security.

 Also under the previous Govt, Secretariat was gheraoed by opposition as well as Govt employees but now any such protest is leading arrests.

Recently the Govt held various arrests of netizens for sharing news on Govt-criticism.

On the other side, Commandant of 12th Bn. TSR Shri Rati Ranjan Debnath has been suspended today evening because of his alleged negligence and failure in command the battalions' jawan's.  Disciplinary proceedings has also initiated against Shri Rati  Ranjan Debnath, IPS, Commandant under the All India Service (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969. It is further ordered that during the period that this order shall remain in force, the headquarter of Shri Rati Ranjan Debnath will be at Agartala and Shri Debnath shall not leave the headquarter without obtaining prior permission of the competent authority.

Consequent upon suspension of Shri Rati Ranjan Debnath, IPS, Commandant, TSR 12th Bn, the charge of Commandant, TSR 12th Bn, Tripura will remain with Shri Jitendra Debbarma, IPS, Commandant, TSR 5Bn. Tripura, in addition and until further order.

It is alleged that, some SOs and NCOs of 12th Bn TSR wrongfully assaulted two Riflemen on May 11 and 12 by these persons. 2nd person has seen the incident and reacted for witness, that's why he was also assaulted by them. It is alleged  that knowing everything Commandant Shri Debnath didn't take any immediate action on this incident. Later, when these barbaric incidents come out to the media and higher-ups of the state administrations, on May 19, evening those five accused persons have been suspended. 

As per the state secretariat sources, as part of this barbaric incidents, the departmental action started and further legal action is also on process to book the guilty as per law.  The sources said that state government taking care of all such derelictions for review and thorough review would also be taken soon.
