AGARTALA / DHAKA,August 23 (TIWN / bdnews24): Governor of Nagaland and Tripura Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya has claimed that the newly appointed Modi government in Delhi is giving maximum priority to the development of India’s northeast region. He says security of the region is at stake in an area surrounded by foreign countries

He says the region is surrounded by foreign countries and that is a 'threat'.

“For the President of India and the PM , their first preference is the Northeast,”  the governor told the media  at the Raj Bhavan here.

Acharya added: “The integrity of the country is threatened in this area because it is surrounded by the international bordersincluding those with China . It is not accepting Arunachal as the part of our country. Infiltration continues from Myanmar and Bangladesh . Assam faces a real danger. So it is important for the present government to take necessary steps , we will not look at which party rules where and if we require more money, money will come for a right cause and I will give a helping hand.”

On the Indo-Naga peace process which has completed 17 years, Acharya assured that the peace talks are going to start soon .

He informed that the peace talks in Nagaland between Indian federal government and Naga insurgents groups are stuck due to an article published by the nominated interlocutor Ravi.

Naga HoHo had raised the objection against the government of India interlocutor.

However, Governor Acharya assured that very soon the Naga peace talks will be on fast forward mode through dialogue as the BJP government under the leadership of Modi which understands ‘business’ and have ‘guts’ to do it.

He said one of the prime cause behind growth of insurgents is unequal distribution of wealth .

Acharya said, “Fruits of the independence have not reached equitably to all the places and all the people. This awakening leads to insurgency. India is rich but Indians are poor.”

The governor viewed that education can play the most vital role in  development and he praised the role of Christian Missionaries in educating the people of the northeastern region.

He appealed to the leaders of other religions to come out of the mindset of just serving the almighty and to learn from the Christian Missionaries how to serve humanity.
