AGARTALA, August 21 (TIWN): The Indigenous Nationalist Party of Twipra (INPT) today announced Kirtimohan Tripura as party candidate for the coming by-election at 39 Manu assembly constituency.
The announcement has caused a flurry in the internal corridors of the state’s centrist political camp as the Pradesh Congress is reported to be approaching the INPT for appeasement talks with the tribal ally as the TTAADC election approaches.
“We have announced Kirtimohan Tripura, a retired teacher and incumbent central committee advisor of INPT to contest in the coming by-election at Manu assembly constituency”, Mohan Debbarma said on behalf of INPT today.
The Tripura Pradesh Congress received a number of setbacks in the past two years. A breakaway faction of the party joined hands with Trinamool Congress, some other leaders formed new parties of their own. The INPT recently left the Congress camp and decided to contest the ADC election on their own. PCC general secretary and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya said that an impenetrable Congress alliance ahead of the TTAADC election. Pradyot Manikya said, “I will speak to all who left the Congress alliance”.
He said that the core demands of INPT and Congress for more power to the district council are the same.
INPT, however, said today in an official communiqué that a large section of youths and employees demanded that INPT candidates should participate in the by-election following which the decision was arrived at.
