AGARTALA, Nov 30 (TIWN): Quite surprisingly, at national level the fish consuming-death of Mohonpur was reported with half-truth, which has successfully saved the state govt from any liability. In various national media it was said that the deceased “Manik Biswas caught the fish from a rivulet in the village”, but it’s wrong. The fishes were bought from Mohonpur’s Airaan Bazar and the shopkeeper’s name is Litan Das. However, the fishes are poisonous and may be shop-keeper didn’t know about it, neither the consumers could identify the dangers. Moreover, young generation's people often can not identify fishes with names. So, in this condition those who do not have knowledge about fishery well what they will do if poisonous fishes are sold in the market ?

No action has been taken against shop-keeper Litan Das, neither Food & Civil Supplies Minister Bhanulal Saha gave any statement after the 2 persons’ deaths.

Atleast, it was expected a statement will be given by the state govt to aware the consumers about food-safety or atleast a survey will be done in this regard. But, nothing was done as the Govt has no control in state’s markets, either related to food safety or price tags.

The local fish, locally known as ‘fotka’ (Potka at West Bengal), (Puffer in English) fish was bought by Manik Lal Biswas for his family yesterday. But after morning food immediately Manik Lal Biswas had died and his mother named Subhona Rani Biswas also died while taking to GB hospital. Manik Lal’s wife Soma Shil Biswas left suffering in critical stage at GB hospital, whereas his sister Anjali Shil Biswas and two children of the house Mousumi Shil Biswas and Dipak Shil Biswas are also in serious condition admitted in GB hospital. Thus the dead persons are : 1) Manik Lal Biswas (40), 2) Subhona Rani Biswas (60). The other hospitalized victims are : Soma Shil Biswas (32), Anjali Shil Biswas (25), Mousumi Shil Biswas (7), Dipak Shil Biswas (14).
