TIWN July 1, 2017
AGARTALA, July 1 (TIWN): Much excitement was observed among the Modi-followers in Tripura when the GST was launching in the midnight Parliamentary Session. However, with the BJP led NDA Govt has successfully launched GST from July 1st (12 AM) at the Parliament, here in Tripura the BJP supporters gathered at BJP Office, in front of Rabindra Bhawan, Big-Bazar to celebrate GST. GST bill in Tripura was passed in the Assembly on a special session from May-23 to May 25. Even though National CPI-M leaders, Congress and Trinamool have boycotted the midnight parliamentary GST session but Tripura left front ruled Govt had launched GST without much doldrums in the presence of Trinamool, Congress MLAs in the state Assembly. When oppositions are fuming over GST launching, then nation has gone through “One Nation, One Tax-system†mood like Demonetization.
While launching PM Modi says, "Freedom at midnight from tax terrorism".
However, oppositions kept different views :
Rahul Gandhi said, “GST is being executed by an incompetent & insensitive Govt without planning foresight & institutional readiness”.
However, going beyond all the controversies Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said, “What kind of Desh-Bhakti it is without paying taxes ?”
"GST was urged by Chdambaram jit in 2006 by Pranab Mukharjee in 2011 and finally with technological support system the assessment will be easy", said Jaitley.
Arun Jaitley also thanked the states for implementing GST.
President Pranab Mukherjee and PM Modi pressed buttons in the historic Central Hall of Parliament to usher in the new regime, which promises to lower the tax burden by doing away with the cascading effect of 17 central and state taxes — apart from 23 cesses -- and to facilitate free movement of goods across state borders. "From Ganganagar to Itanagar, from Leh to Lakshadweep, the dream of one nation, one tax will be fulfilled," Modi said.
The PM, who quoted Albert Einstein and Chanakya, besides passages from the Vedas, described implementation of GST as a huge accomplishment, on par with the merger of more than 500 principalities into the Indian Union. " Imagine what India would have looked like today had Sardar Patel not united all the principalities of India. Just like that, GST will unite India into one market," he said. He also referred to the coincidence of the GST Council having its 18th meeting on Friday, just ahead of the GST launch, and the Bhagavad Gita having 18 chapters.
Goods and Services Tax (GST) is set to roll out today at midnight. It is going to impact every Indian as prices of a large number of goods and services are going to change. The GST Council has fixed the tax rates for 1,211 items, keeping a majority of these in the 18% slab.
