Agartala, Oct 6 (TIWN) Tripura police arrested a well-known doctor for ‘accidental’ firing into a government run students’ hostel in the heart of the capital city. None was hurt in the firing, which created panic in the city Saturday evening.
Police immediately have rushed to the students’ hostel and house of Dr A. K. Roy and seized one point 35 revolver and a sports rifle, both are licensed, from his house, nearby the B.R Ambedkar memorial students’ hostel.
Dr Roy, a prominent gynecologist of Tripura, told the police that it was ‘accidental’.
Officer-in-charge of the West Kotowali police station Milan Datta told TIWN : “City’s eminent doctor A. K. Roy fired three rounds at the B.R Ambedkar memorial students’ hostel from his point 35 revolver just before the Saturday evening. However, none was wounded in the firing.”
Mr Datta said : “Though Dr Roy has maintained that it was ‘accidental’, but the firing might killed any one in the hostel, where about a hundred students were lodged.”
“We have registered a case against the doctor as he has violated the conditions of the arms license. We are now probing the other aspects of the incident,” the police official said.
After interrogating the doctor, police released the doctor on bail.
