Agartala, Oct 5(TIWN) : The state government decided to increase the pay- roll of Special Police Officers (SPOs), informed a high official at civil secretariat on Saturday.
The official said that the pay – roll will be hiked by Rs 1500; the notification in this regard will be issued shortly. Present salary o f a SPO is around Rs 3600, after the increased pay –roll a SPO will get Rs 4000 plus. More than three thousands SPOs are engaged at various police stations in the State.
Another decision taken as stated by the official that all SPOs will be given compulsory two months training, after that they can be posted anywhere for assisting the State police. Now SPOs are posted at their home address police station.
The government also decided to grant some relaxations to eligible SPOs for posts like – constables, riflemen and enroll followers in Tripura Police. The relaxation will be given regarding age and education, besides 3 percent posts will be reserved for SPOs at the above mentioned posts. If no eligible candidates are found then the posts will be deserved for other candidates.
The SPOs was recruited by the government when militancy was at its peak in Tripura. Their main duty was to assists the various security forces both of central and state deployed here to fight against outlawed militants.
