AGARTALA, March 11 (TIWN): Evenafter clamours are high by Tripura Govt about power generation, state is suffering from severe power crisis situation. Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal challenging Tripura Govt said on Friday, “Assam’s potentiality in power generation is only 250 MW, Tripura’s 850 MW; still the condition of Tripura in compare to Assam is much down”. Whereas NE state Tripura is generating enough power and also sharing power with neighboring Bangladesh, but the transmission and generation is left in very poor shape. As a result most of the time the rural areas suffer from load-shedding. It has been witnessed during summer, for whole night no power is there, which creates an anarchy over there.

Tripura Governor Tathagata Roy who also an expert in this field highly criticized the present scenario of power transmission in Tripura as well as the distribution issue recently said in a pogramme, ‘It has been seen that for whole Belonia city remains powerless. I’m not saying it is happening everyday but why for a single day it will happen’?

It’s worthy to mention here that Tripura is already suffering from major power crisis as the power production has been reduced drastically. With the Palatana, Monarchak has begun, the result is not that level of satisfactory.

In this condition Tripura Govt taking initiatives for solar plants. Moreover, the state govt has taken Rs. 250 crores of loans from UBI to clear the pending bill to various plants. In this situation power sharing with Bangladesh may effect Tripura further.

An approximately 15598 houses were caught with hook lines in a mission against hook lines in the year 2015-16.But no legal steps were taken against them.

Rather than taking steps against electricity theft, Power minister has blamed NEEPCO stating that Monarchak is a total failure.

It’s worthy to mention here that the Power Minister recently in a programme advised that people should make their homes scientifically so that during day time sunlight comes and no need of lights. But whereas he claimed that hook-lines are available in Tripura, but what step will be taken against hook lines, he was totally silent about it. May be thinking about CPI-M’s vote banks at rural Tripura nothing is done by the state govt in this regard. He ended with a call for “awareness against hook lines’.

Thus it can be said that the ongoing power crisis which has hit the state may be worsen in coming days, as the power dept itself is under huge debts of un-cleared bills.
