AGARTALA, Jan 15 (TIWN): The so called poorest Chief Minister of India, who ended with Rs. 150 of donation to the earthquake victims, now under much pressure as questions raised against the cold attitude of the state govt to the victims. In a letter to the Chief Minister of Tripura the common people here, via various independent organizations asked him to take “immediate action regarding prevention of loss of lives and properties in earthquake and streamlining post disaster responses…”. Whereas Chief Minister Manik Sarkar is now visiting other states as Karnataka for some party meetings, the shelter-less people at Khowai, Dhalai left in deplorable state. Thus in a letter public told Sarkar, “…..hope you will attach importance to it considering exigency of the matter and impending of crisis in disaster management. We are aware that Tripura and other Northeastern States are of its geo-tectonic location in the vicinity of three tectonic plate boundaries…and the recent earthquake in state has exposed the existence of active Fault Line within Tripura”.

They also added, “… the houses and infrastructure of the state are very much vulnerable even to low intensity earthquake. But there is no visible action and plan by the Govt to aware the people en mass regarding vulnerability of the impending disaster”.

Thus the public demand raised for satisfy, sustain the people atleast to the minimum level so that some precautions can be taken when earthquake comes. The upcoming buildings should be made with some minimum protections, the organizations demanded. The name of the organizations who wrote the letter to CM are : ARPAN Society, Tripura Yuktibad Bikash Mancha, Manab Seva Parishad, Agartala Cycle Club, Call for need.

It’s worthy to mention here that Tripura evenafter CPI-M’s 23 yrs rule failed to advance in technologically at the minimum, which once again has proven when after 24 hrs of passage the Govt failed to recover the correct data of earthquake losses across the whole State. However, after 24 hours after the 5.5 richter scale massive-earthquake, Tripura CM Manik Sarkar reached Kamalpur by expensive helicopter ride to distribute only Rs 150 to victim families.

During CM’s visit Rs. 150 per family was provided to the earthquake victims in that relief camp, which triggered much resentment among the victims.

But what surprising is that, evenafter much criticism, the Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty also did the same on Thursday during his visit at Unakoti Dist sparing only Rs 150 per family.

In a visit to Unakoti Dist Tripura Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty at Jamtail Bari ADC Village where 90 families were identified as victim families, among them 22 families are yet homeless.

A section of people have taken shelter under temporary constructions made with bamboos and straws.Since last 2 days atleast 22 tribal families are passing their days and night at refugee camp, whether no one visited the spot.

Atleast 1311 houses were damaged in Tripura after earthquake had hit the state on Jan 3rd. One woman died at Kamalpur and more than 200 families took shelter in refugee camps.
