AGARTALA, Jan 13 (TIWN): Tax Dept’s duty has just remained as to aware the people in tax contribution, whereas no action is really taken. A seminar was held on Tax contribution at Town Hall on Friday, where Debapriya Bardhan Tax dept. Commissioner, Debamita Kilikdar, Dy Commissioner, B K Jamatia, Asst commissioner were present. A huge number of businessmen were present in that seminar, but question remains about the result of such seminars. Even after the pushing of Central Finance Ministers Tripura Tax Dept has failed to up the Tax contribution from Tripura, neither having all data it disclosed the names of the non-tax payers. Tripura has huge amount of unpaid tax payers, including Govt. high officials IAS,IPS officials, Ministers. Central Tax Commissioners came again and again in Tripura to aware the people here to give full tax, but due to the inactiveness of the Tax dept. it was not possible.

In last year May 25, two of Tripura Ministers and three of his party MLAs had received notice from Income Tax department at Guwahati for non-payment of tax against their taxable annual income.

Social Welfare and Environment Minister Bijita Nath and Forest and Rural Development Minister Naresh Jamatia had to appear before IT officials at Guwahati with supplementing papers. The report said CPI-M MLA Keshab Debbarama has already appeared before IT Directorate for NE Region but their reports remained unsatisfactory.

However apart from that Tripura has massive non-tax payers in state, but the Tax Dept.has finally failed to take any action. The reason behind the silence of the tax dept is yet unknown.

After Minister Bijita Nath, Minister Naresh Jamatia were called to Guwahati by the Tax Dept. for mismatching of properties and income-tax payment, DGP K Nagraj’s name were also brought under the scanner as this corrupt IPS officer already charge sheeted by CBI in March 29,2007 for amassing properties over 500 times disproportionately than his known sources of incomes.

However, this time Modi Govt. turned the heat on Tripura Govt for revenue collection, also asked the public of Tripura from businessmen to High Govt. officials to disclose the properties within September 30th. Otherwise legal action will be taken against them, whoever it is, but till day it has remained just as a concept due to the CPI-M backed officials sitting at the Tax dept of Agartala.
