AGARTALA, Jan 6 (TWN): An earthquake tremor measuring 5.7 on the ricter scale with its epicenter in Dhalai district shuddered the state on Tuesday at 2:39 PM. This is the first time that the epicenter of the temblor is being located in Tripura.

As reported, Kailasahar subdivision has been affected the most. An estimated 174 people of 40 families were rendered homeless and took refuge in Noagaon J B School. A woman lost her life due to a heart attack following the tremor.

On Wednesday, Tripura chief minister Manik Sarkar and Revenue minister Badal Choudhary visited the affected areas and asked the district administration to dispatch help to the victims. The administration eluded from their duty by providing 150 rupees per family, majority of who earn their daily bread from farming chores.

The state is highly vulnerable as it is situated on zone v and has higher probability of tremors with magnitude 8 and more whereas any magnitude 7 and above can have adverse disastrous affect. The recent earthquake is a moot point whether our state is a in a position to take steps towards the predetermined doom day. “Tripura Disaster management Authority”-Will It be A Savior? It’s the nick of time to stop being “Big Mouths” and start acting fervently towards the issue.

State disaster management lacks manpower, neither any preparedness to deal with natural calamities even though Central Govt pumping crores of funds.
