Agartala, Sept 29(TIWN) : Tripura is a fast growing economy in the North East Region, during last few years the trade volume has increased manifold and in current fiscal year the same stands at over Rs 340 crore per annum, Deputy Speaker Pabitra of Tripura Legislative Assembly, Pabitra Kar here on Sunday.
Speaking in a seminar on India – Bangladesh Maitri – Improvement of Trade relation he said, “Promotion of Indo – Bangladesh trade in the North Eastern India would be facilitated if Bangladesh trade, business and government are on board and see if benefits for them as well”
The deputy stated that the potential for greater mutual advantage through development of better trade links via Tripura can be more acceptable and attractive to the partner nation Bangladesh, there could be a joint venture projects.
He informed, “The official trade between India and Bangladesh started in 1995. Since then vigorous efforts have been made by the state government to improve the trade relation between both the countries and also to attract the investment from Bangladesh involving the prominent Chambers of Commerce of Bangladesh.”
Speaking about the visit of Bangladesh Prime Minister to India in January, 2010, Mr. Pabira said, “Number of path – breaking agreements were arrived at between India and Bangladesh on issues such as giving India access to Chittagong port, Agartala – Akhaura Rail Link, declaration of Ashuganj as port – of- call, operatinalisation of Sabroom – Ramgarh land customs station, setting of border haats.
