Agartala, June 7 (TIWN): Even after the Project Guarantee Test (PGT) of the plant and switching on the Palatana thermal power unit-I, power crisis in the state has worsened along with the boosting demand of power. The power-starved north-eastern region has been hit by a severe electricity crisis.

People of the state have been suffering from frequent load-shedding. The unannounced load shedding in addition to the scheduled power cut has caused severe inconvenience to all sections of the people. According to the existing schedule, power supply was being suspended for two hours in a day. On a rotation basis, electricity supply was suspended in all areas. There is no disparity between rural and urban areas on record; all the areas go without power for several times in a day.

People of the state have been facing tremendous problems due to the scorching heat which is increasing day by day. The sun is so hot during the day that it is impossible for the people to come out of their houses for any kind of requirements. The roads are found to be empty during the day time and this problem is being added by frequent power cuts. Whether inside or outside the houses people are unable to find any relief from this rising temperature.

Over sweating are causing dehydration and other related problems. Over heating also causes in drying up the water bodies and other sources of drinking water. Being asked the authorities about the frequent power-cuts every branch offices blames the others but no perfect reasons are provided whereas the power cut still continues raising the difficulty of the residents of the state.

As per the present unannounced scheme, power supply is cut for two hours at a stretch either in the morning, evening or in the noon. In addition to this, power goes off suddenly at any time of the day. The suspension of power varies from 20 minutes to 45 minutes. Several residential colonies were left with no power supply in the wee hours also, causing disturbed sleep.

Though the government assured that after the success of PGT of the mega power project’s first unit, the state will be relieved from power crisis, the reality is something else which the state is witnessing with frequent power-cuts. Though the people had been managing the situation, the introduction of unscheduled power cut has worsened the woes with the setting in of summer. The government is playing mute role regarding the issue.
