AGARTALA, June 5 (TIWN): Madhyamik results declared today by the Tripura Board of Secondary Education could have been better; we provided standard and good infrastructure in schools across the state, Tripura School Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty said here today.Interacting with the media at civil secretariat here today, the minister visibly disapproved average results of Madhyamik examination conducted by the TBSE and said the results could have been much better.
“We provided good infrastructure within our limited financial and logistic capabilities. We feel that the result declared today was a cumulative output of the efforts of teachers, guardians and students. But we think it could have been better”, Chakraborty said.
He added that average pass rate in schools under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) areas was a cause of concern for the Department. “Results in schools under ADC areas in Dhalai and North Tripura district have been especially bad. We are concerned at this trend”, he said.
Barely 45.96 percent students passed among 244 schools in the TTAADC areas in regular category against the state average of 68.78 percent. 28.48 percent passed in continuing, 66.67 percent in compartmental categories.
Speaking in the context of schools with hundred percent failure this year, the minister said that headmasters and teachers from sixteen schools of the state which had zero pass rate would be summoned and questioned about reasons behind the disastrous failure. “We might even take some action on people involved in such cases”, he said.
Chakraborty, however, acknowledged role of teachers and other stakeholders from the Department of School Education and said that the board results were exhibiting a steady growth of 2 percent – 3 percent on an average since 2008. “This is commendable. But we feel that the growth should be better”, he added.
Average pass rate in Madhyamik examination rose to 68.78 percent this year from 66.39 percent in the previous academic session. South Tripura district scored best in the board examination this year with an aggregate pass rate of 82.47 percent. Gomati district followed suit with 78.62 percent with Sepahijala district (66.44 percent), Dhalai (62.47 percent), North Tripura (59.76 percent) etc trailing behind.
