AGARTALA, Nov 3 (TIWN): A big question mark is on the much claimed 'highest literacy rate' in Tripura among the whole country, after Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty accepted the fact that more than 50 % of the teachers in Tripura are untrained. But a question, which was never asked to the ruling govt of Tripura is--- Who is actually responsible for this present scenario? B.Ed was never considered as an important qualification to get a teacher's job in Tripura. Although for other states B.Ed was made compulsory, but for Tripura it remained as the 3rd option to qualify an oral interview, neither the Tripura Govt encouraged young generation for B.Ed. Moreover, lack of B.Ed Colleges in Tripura since decades had deprived the young generation for long. It was from 2010 that 150 Govt vacant posts for freshers were launched in B.ed College near Agartala Buddha-Mandir, whereas at other private Universities due to high costs students couldn’t complete their B.Ed training. Tripura Govt never focused for quality in teaching skill and thus B.Ed was sidelined resulting crisis of qualified teachers in schools.

The present scenario of more than 50 % unqualified teachers is because of the Govt never motivated the state for B.Ed. After getting job B.Ed  training was given to the teachers, which was another way to violation of recruitment policy.

2 points regarding B.Ed helped the Govt much :

  1. Lack of B.Ed Collges for unemployed people,
  2. Training opportunity only after getting a job.

The 2 sides helped the CPI-M Govt to reserve the seats for their close people and there was a time, just a year back when without party channel teaching job was unthinkable.

However, with the blessing of High Court, TET exam was made mandatory for all candidates, but it also caused loss to many unemployed as B.Ed degree was not with them. The lack of B.Ed Colleges also hit the moment.

However, all these have now resulted in poor education quality due to lack of trainings in teachers and the massive 'party cadre base' jobs distribution held in earlier days.
