AGARTALA, June 4 (TIWN): In the wake of unrest at Bangladesh’s Khagracherri district, around 90 Bangladeshi families have crossed over the unfenced Indo-Bangla border and taken shelter at Tuichakma in Dhalai district, official sources confirmed here today. The families- mostly Chakma and Tripuri ethnic tribes are resident of Naraicheeri, Dakshin Baghaihaat, North Baghaihaat and Dewanpara in Khagracherri district of Bangladesh.Tension runs high at Khagracherri in Bangladesh’s Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) following skirmish between United Democratic Front (UDF) and Bangladesh Border Guards (BGB) which has prompted the Bangla nationals to take shelter in Indian soil.

When contacted, District Magistrate (DM), Dhalai Dr. Milind K Ramteke who is stationed at Tuichakma ADC village, confirmed the fresh influx of Bangladeshi nationals in some border areas of the district.

“We are collecting the information about the families, who have come over here from across the border. To resolve the problem, the BSF will organize a flag meeting at Mayang BOP today evening where BGB’s wing commander of Naraicherra BOP will remain present. We are optimistic of sending all the Bangladeshi nationals to their homeland”, he said.

In the wake of the fresh influx from neighbouring Bangladesh, the BSF authority has intensified vigil along the unfenced Indo-Bangla especially sharing CHT. Top police and BSF officials are campaign at Tuichakma ADC village, an unfenced border village of Ganadacherra subdivision.

Though 80 percent Indo-Bangla border has been fenced so far, some patches in the state’s eastern border including Gandacherra, Korbok and Longthrai Valley still remains unfenced.
