AMARPUR, June 3 (TIWN): Hundreds of Chakma people from Bangladesh’s Banderban area entered into different villages of Raishyabari area last night sparking fresh tension along the Indo-Bangla border.
According to sources, around 200 to 250 Chakma people of 35 families have entered into various border villages under Raishyabari police station through Sikandar and Karina BOPs.
After receiving the information, police and BSF troops visited the porous border today but could not identify Bangladeshi nationals who crossed over the border taking the advantage of porous border. The Bangladeshi nationals have reportedly mixed up with local villagers making it difficult for the police to identify them.
Sources claimed, tension runs high at Banderban area in Bangladesh’s Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) following skirmish between Sanathi Bahini and United Democratic Front (UDF). And the unrest at Bandarban area prompted Chakma people to sneak into Indian soil.
In the wake of the fresh influx from neighbouring Bangladesh, the BSF authority has intensified vigil along the unfenced Indo-Bangla especially sharing CHT. However, the BSF authority could not be reached out tonight.
Following fresh influx from Bangladesh, the police authority has also alerted the local police authority to remain vigilant to thwart any large-scale influx from across the border.
Earlier also, hundreds of Chakma villagers have sneaked into Korbok subdivision of Gomati district in the wake of unrest in CHT. However, the matter has not been taken ugly turn due to timely intervention of the police and BSF authority.
