AGARTALA, May 21 (TIWN): Naresh Chandra Jamatia’s succession of most dynamic and prolific minister of CM Manik Sarkar’s Cabinet Jitendra Chaudhuri told a number of untold stories of Left politics in India.

Traditionally, CPI-M believes leadership from downtrodden and justice to the seniors and dedicated section. But emerging political situation seems to influence leftists to look beyond century old custom. Still CPI-M in Tripura could not believe unless the leader crosses the age limit of 50 years, they can’t lead the youth front. Tapas Datta, Amal Chakraborty and Pranab Debbarma are the best examples in sorts.

Before 2013 assembly poll, CPI-M resonated the same thing that new faces and youngsters are being promoted. While nominating Jitendra Choudhury and Shankar Datta in Loksabha election same thing had echoed by Bijan Dhar.

Many youth leaders wonder  “Does CPI-M consider 50 years a cut mark to be youth?”

Besides age limit,  the party started giving importance to international exposure and fluency in English. Thanks them for belated understanding of the necessity of westernization.

Soon after acceptance of Jitendra Chaudhuri’s resignation, Chief Minister recommended 55 yrs old  Naresh Chandra Jamatia as successor of Chaudhuri.

Naresh is representing Bagma constituency of Gomati district for the second term.

Though he could not complete his electrical engineering, Naresh is most internationally exposed person among all CPI-M Tripura state committee members.

He travelled across Germany, Sweden, South Africa, Venezuela, Brazil, Thailand and Bangladesh on tribal issues. Moreover, he is considered to be the most vibrant face for CPI-M in tribal community with modern outlook like Jitendra Chaudhuri.

In fact, top and middle class tribal imparting education to their children in convent schools of Tripura, Shillong, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore and cities of Maharashtra. Penetration of convent education among the tribals of Tripura is undoubtedly higher than non-tribals living in the state.

Party insiders also admitted that several names of veteran tribal MLAs were discussed for the cabinet as Jitendra’s successor but party top policy makers said not to them, rather considered Naresh for his exposure and experience.

Moreover, Jitendra Chaudhuri’s departure from active state politics has created a serious vacuum in tribal politics of Tripura. Though there are dedicated veteran communists  yet to mobilise the Gen X of tribal needs a smart icon who is having international exposure, fluency in English and Hindi and also commitment for the tribals beyond traditions.

It is believed that the selection of Naresh Jamatia has given a clear indication of qualitative change in CPI-M party’s thinking at least for survival in  Modi’s nation building wave.
