AGARTALA, Sep 14 (TIWN): CM Manik Sarkar & former Chief Secretary S.K.Panda’s close TCS officer Bimal Chakraborty was sent to jail for looting Rs 17 crores of MGNREGA money. Comrade Bimal Chakraborty, who is the prime accused of looting MGNREGA funds of Rs 17 Crore in Bisalgarh RD block, which might even spike upto Rs 44 Crores during his tenure as BDO(Block Development Officer) in Bishalgarh. After Bimal’s tenure, incubent Bishalgarh BDO Subrata Das lodged FIR against Bimal and 11 others official in the local police station. However Chief Minister’s blessings saved Bimal and for public show ,Tripura Govt. issued his suspension order but surprisingly, despite his unauthorized absent in duty for a month to evade arrest, the Govt did not take any action against erring BDO. After a long time, Bimal accompanied by his defense lawyer surrendered before the court and police demanded 10 days custody. Then passing 3 months in Jail, Bimal Chakraborty’s brother and SFI’s State Secretary Amal Chakraborty managed his bail order easily with the stage-managed police investigation under the supervision of CBI chargesheeted corrupt DGP K.Nagraj.

Huge misappropriation of MGNREGA funds were recorded with 7 village Panchayats and the incomplete audit in rest 29 Panchayats and 11 Village councils under ADC.  

According to the Audit officials the total  misappropriation in the block during Bimal’s tenures has already crossed Rs 44 Cr but audit is not completed in the all the expenditure incurred since 2011-12.

After completion of audit in seven Panchayats the then Finance Minister Badal Choudhury asked the administration to lodge FIR against Bimal and others within a week.  Badal Choudhury was shifted from finance to health and file was kept in abeyance till opposition congress exposed it on September 18 that year.

Bimal Chakraborty belongs to a powerful CPI-M family and close to Manik Sarkar. His elder brother Amal Chakraborty is CPI-M youth wing DYFI’s Secretary.

However, due to Manik Sarkar’s silence and patronage of thieves like Bimal Chakraborty,  not only police did unfair investigation, but finally CPI-M making decks ready for  Bimal Chakraborty's re-joining  in service.

Chief Minister never allowed Police to file proper chargesheets which resulted Bimal's release fromjail after 6 months.
