AGARTALA, Sep 13 (TIWN): Religious superstitions driving violent butchering of animals in the name of ‘sacrifice’. Whether its Muslims or Hindus, this barnaric practice of butchering animals to appease Gods continue even in 21st Century. Whether its buffalo, goats killing during Kali Puja, Durga Puja or butchering cows during Eid festival, question remains that, is the bloodshed of millions of animals is necessary to celebrate any joyous religious occasion ? During the Eid festival, lakhs of cows are butchered by ‘halal’ process where animal is slittered to meet a painful long death which religious people celebrate as holy occasion. Even in Agartala’s Fourteen Gods Temple or Durgabari, goats, buffalos are killed to appease so called imaginary Gods with animal bloods. Is this humanity ? Although country is moving to with Digital-India movement, but the superstition and faith in barbaric beliefs are not leaving their minds. Hindus everyday killing thousands of goats in the name of Puja especially at Kali temples, and on special occasions they go with buffalo killings including pious places like Tripura Sundari temple. Apart from Hinduism, in Muslim, Christian and Tribal cultures also are dominated by these blood-tainted superstitions.

By doing ritual ‘Kurbani” (sacrifice) of innocent animals people are giving up their humanity across the state on the occasion of Id-ul-Zuha.

The Eid celebration on Tuesday, is called Bakri Eid where basically Goats are sacrificed. However, the demand for cows are more than goats across Tripura.

‘Udhiya’ is an Arabic word meaning “blood sacrifice”, and ‘Qurbani’ is an Urdu and Persian word derived from the Arabic word “Qurban” which literally means an act performed to seek Allah’s pleasure. It is technically used for the sacrifice of an animal slaughtered for the sake of Allah. But question arises, is necessary to go by all these superstition in this 21st century ???

In Christianity also chicken sacrifice practice has failed to propagate the real message of Jesus’s sacrifice !

Although, animal cruelty laws provide a viable solution for preventing animal sacrifice, but the political parties in order to save their vote banks failed to show their attitude against religious barbarism.

For example communists call themselves as secular, but before religious Muslims departure for Haj-Pilgrimage to Mecca, Tripura Sports Minister  Sahid Choudhury personally greeted them at Agartala Airport. Minister  Sahid Choudhury is known to have links with all kind of underworld muslim smugglers based in Sonamura-Boxnagar region.

Being ruled by Communists since 23 years, CPI-M govt. has failed to stop the goat sacrifice process at Matabari.

Every year millions of animals are tortured in the name of religious ceremonies which is actually an insane practice by human beings.

For many years we are fighting against this monstrous cruelty which is violation of  animal rights in many Indian States. However, in Tripura apart from few independent writers no one raised voice against it.

As a result bloodshed has become a part of Tripura’s religious festivals.

Tripura should learn from Nepal’s famous Temple and local Govt’s banning of animal killings in Gadhimai festival, a Hindu festival where lakhs of buffaloes butchered annually – which is now stopped.

No religion needs animal killing or bloods to appease Gods rather than filling stomachs of greedy generations.
