KAMALPUR, Aug 10 (TIWN): For year after year, the Nagar Panchayat here at Kamalpur remained at the hands of the CPI-M. This time the opposition could send a single representative in the body.

And in this unrestrained saga of power, the Nagar Panchayat failed to rectify the disputed type of dwelling lands. Hence, the authority continued their collection of taxes on disputed lands controversially. And now, the citizens had to suffer the paying of fines to the SDM.

It got revealed that, the maximum house of the Nagar Panchayat area got built on ‘naal’ (paddy land) type of lands. Now, such lands could never be used for dwelling.

And if it became obvious then the land should be converted into ‘bastu’ (dwelling land) type through a process. But, the type of the land remained unknown to the citizens.

Moreover, the legacy to the ruling party made many bold enough to ignore the need of changing the type of the land. Even, the Nagar Panchayat collected taxes from those dwellers years after years.

Now, whenever, any of the citizens wished to make any construction inside their premise had to get permission from the SDM.

As the citizens approached to the SDM for the same, the matter of unlawful residing got revealed and the SDM had to charge fine as per the provision of the law. The amount of fine, as charged so far, became more than even 50, 000 rupees.

Now, the question raised that, why the Nagar Panchayat authority remained numbed up on the issue so-far and collected taxes gleefully? Further, the citizens demanded that, the Nagar Panchayat should come forward in public interest, so that the citizens might resolve the issue with minimum fine.
