AGARTALA, Aug 7 (TIWN): Finally the wait ends as the day has come for which the entire nation was waiting. All eye on Dipa karmakar as Dipa to perform her vault at 6.15 pm on Sunday. Dipa who has been said as the expert in The Produnova will perform at Rio on Sunday.The Produnova -- a handspring double-front somersault -- has the highest degree of difficultly for a women’s vault, a 7.0, and only five people have attempted in competition. It’s so dangerous some want it banned because of the potentially life-threatening injuries if a gymnast over-rotates and lands on their neck. But Karmakar, the first Indian gymnast to compete at the Games since 1964, is determined. Dipa is the third athlete in the world to complete the dangerous vault successfully after Russian Yelena Produnava and Yamilet Pena of Dominican Republic.

The Tripura girl, who rode on the Produnova, a tough front handspring and two front somersaults, is now under huge pressure as she has stand up to the hopes and aspiration of crores of people of the nation. She has already grabbed a piece of history by becoming the first Indian female gymnast to qualify for the Olympics and Dipa Karmakar would aim to touch greater heights when she competes at the Rio Games in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday evening.

Fighting all odds, the 22-year-old diminutive girl from Tripura had qualified for the Olympics at this very venue in April. She has given her soul into mastering the highly difficult Produnova a double front somersault vault  and is relying on it for a super show. 

A Tripura girl created history in gymnastic world in her young age in 2016.Apart from being the first Indian woman, she will also be an Indian gymnast qualifying for the quadrennial extravaganza after 52 long years.

However, central government has already  announced Rs 1.10 crores towards Dipa's training in foreign till August but from  Tripura nothing special was done for her except banners and hoardings.

However Sahid Choudhury concluded   by saying, “Dipa is now India’s hope. Tripura govt. wishes for her success over Rio”. 

Same Shahid Chowdhury laughed off saying that " Let her perform first, right now she is just a contestant' when TIWN contacted Sports Minister back in March 2016 asking why Tripura Govt failed to announce any cash rewards after Dipa's Olympics selection and achievements in Glasgow commonwealth games .

As per the official schedule of the Rio Olympics, Indian gymnast Dipa Karmakar, the solitary contestant for India in gymnastics, will make her appearance for glory from 7th of August, when the events for the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics begin.

Dipa Karmakar, who is only the third gymnast in the world to successfully do a Produnova vault (after Yelena Produnova and Oksana Chusovitina) is a dark horse in the gymnastics events, where success for Indians is almost unheard of.

She will compete in the women’s individual all-round - vaults, balance beam, floor exercise, uneven bars from 7th to 16th August, in case she qualifies for any one of the finals she makes in.

In the World Gymnastics Championships, where one couldn’t even imagine India reaching top 20, she stood a proud 5th.
