AGARTALA, July 25 (TIWN): Before 7 months Tripura Chief Minister walked on the muddy road-way at South Chandrapur, (Agartala) when he was going to attend a blood donation camp. Due to road’s pathetic condition, Manik Sarkar’s vehicle couldn’t travel the road and he had to walk a long distance to attend the blood donation camp.

During that time, CM to save his face expressed much anger over the road condition and he promised to take initiative to renovate the road soon. But after his departure, no renovation work was held there. Question arises, why CM promised lies before the media? Are politicians’ voices just for media-publicity?

Talking to the locals, they said although they are demanding for a Pakka road, but unfortunately no action has been taken by PWD. ‘We were hoping high that after Chief Minister’s promise this road will be renovated. But alas ! CM told us lies on that’, said an old man of that locality to TIWN.

Tripura Govt. had received Rs. 2,534.53 crores till day for Rural Transport work, but across the state, rural roads are left in miserable condition.

Whereas Tripura Govt. keeps on blaming the Assam Govt. for the pathetic condition of National Highway, on the other hand agitated locals everyday blocking roads seeking reason behind PWD’s negligence in roadway renovation.

In Agartala however, many roads have been identified as in pathetic shape, but PWD Minister yet claims that Tripura’s roadway is better than other Northeastern States’ roads. 1)  The roadway which covers Battala Fish-Bazaar to the road went near the barrage was broken down after the pipe-line was set there. But PWD has no hurry to re-construct the road there, 2.) From Joynagar Dasami Ghat to Upendra Para bridge has become almost unsuited for use. So  renovation of that road is also needed, 3) renovation work of Dasamighat to Battala road is also urgently needed,  4)Renovation needed taking the areas from Fire-service to checkpost (Akhaura), 5)Kalikapur to Shanmura road also needs immediate renovation.

Along with National Highway, Tripura’s local roads are also in deplorable condition due to the poor maintenance held by PWD.

PWD corrupt officials, local contractors are looting central funds every year via various projects. On the other hand in a recent meeting held at Delhi Tripura  MPs sought more funds from Union Minister of Rural Development Narendra Singh Tomar, which stands almost Rs. 958 crores.

PWD’s corruption and roadways pathetic condition is responsible for the poor economy prevailed in state.

But, still  the Chief Minister and his ministers claim for the rapid development held in state.

In the mean time, agitated common people placed deputation to the Governor of Tripura at his own residence to take action as fast as possible to renovate the National highway.
