Exit Poll predicts TMC win ; West Bengal Poll result will be crucial for Tripura's opposition politics : Birjit group trying for expulsion of Sudip ?

AGARTALA, May 17 (TIWN): All eyes are fixed on 19th of May, the day when the Assembly Poll result of the 5 states ,especially West Bengal will be declared . And as far as the opposition politics in Tripura is concerned the result of West Bengal poll will be her crucial. This may even bring significant changes in the opposition parties in Tripura. Initially it was thought ( after the resignation of Sudip Roy Barman from CLP leadership ) that most of the MLA's of Congress party will join Trinamool Congress . Because following the steps of Sudip most of the leaders of TPCC , TPYCC, NSUI resigned from their posts protesting against the 'unethical and immoral alliance of Congress and CPI-M( as stated by rebel Congress group. But now it seems that Pradesh Congress Committee led by Birjit Sinha has somewhat managed to do damage control. On Saturday apart from Birjit Sinha 3 MLA's joined the ' Leadership Training and Research Programme ' organized by PCC .

These three MLA's are Gopal Roy, Jitendra Sarkar and Dilip Sarkar. Again on Sunday another MLA cum former Leader of Opposition Ratan Lal Nath too attended the programme and there by he too sent a message to the Sudip & Co . In a round about way Ratan Lal Nath made it clear that he did not like the way in which Sudip & his team responded by ransacking Congress Bhavan.

What is interesting is the way through which Ratan Lal Nath encouraged the already down Congress workers criticizing sharply the attitude of the Congress rebel group .

Political analysts say that Ratan Lal Nath indeed strengthened the hands Birjit Sinha and his group by remarking sharply against Sudip lobby .

Ratan Lal Nath is known for his balance shifting politics within Congress party. However, he has never been the most trusted man of Barman lobby. But in the internal politics Ratan Lal Nath has always been a man to recognised. Even he is also close to some of the top level leaders of AICC . As of now it is expected that Birjit Sinha might have been able to so some damage control; the participation of Jitendra Sarkar, Dilip Sarkar and Ratan Lal Nath in the programme organized by TPCC is a clear indication to that direction.

A highly placed source of TPCC told this correspondent ," As of now it seems that Birjit lobby is with 5 MLA's but none can guarantee that the situation will remain the same if Mamata Banerjee comes to the power. Birjit Sinha is also trying to take Biswabandhu Sen and Pranajit Sinha Roy into confidence . " It is to be mentioned here that with the recent trend in state politics none of the MLA's except Sudip Roy Barman and Ashish Kumar Saha is guaranteed to be in Sudip lobby.

Because before the merger with TMC all the MLA's want to get assured that the number 7(  as per Anti-Defection Law 7 MLA's support is required to retain the MLA status after merger) game is in their favour. If Sudip fails to assure the support of 7 MLA's it will be a great blunder on behalf of him.

A highly placed PCC source closed to Sudip lobby too told TIWN over phone ," It is certain that Sudip Roy Barman can't remain in Congress because it will be shameful for him to bend down before Birjit lobby. But the possibility is there that some of the MLA's may remain with Congress to retain their membership as MLA because if Sudip can't get 7 MLA's with him , he is bound to be expelled from his party ( as of now Sudip is only suspended but he is not expelled) . "

But with the TMC is almost certain to retain power in Bengal many workers ( known to be hardcore against CPI-M) will leave the party. However, if Sudip Roy Barman is indeed expelled from Congress , this will prove that the myth that Congress party in Tripura is controlled by Barman family is nothing but a history.
