AGARTALA, May 11 (TIWN): State is seeing an alarming rise in malaria with report of malaria effected cases from different tribal hamlets of the state. Though the number of cases is rising with each passing day, but authority claims that the figures are not high as compared to previous year. Maximum cases are reported from Khowai, Sonamura and different other interior tribal hamlet places. According to Health officials, water-logging, stagnant water and unhygienic conditions are ideal for mosquitoes to breed and produce dengue and malaria. It is to be mentioned here that Fluctuating temperatures and erratic weather is also turning the situation worse. Tripura is yet again in the grip of malaria with the report of malaria outbreak. Though the state govt. claims to have taken certain measures to prevent the situation but situation remains alarming. The state medical team has been conducting a regular health camp at the malaria affected villages but Malaria is still prevailing in the state.

Since many tribal populations do not complete the full course of drugs, malaria become drug resistant and once a mosquito bites them, it can infect others.

Many malaria cases are reported even in winter because of this phenomenon. As this season is peak season for jhum cultivation the tribals’ are toiling in fields that are swarmed with mosquitoes on their bodies, hence they are susceptible to mosquito bites

It is to be mentioned here that as a part of preventive measure of malaria, Agartala Municipal Corporation has started spraying DDT in various major areas. The department have also started distributing mosquito nets among the people to prevent the spread of Malaria among people.

The area includes municipality area, Nagar Panchayat and many other malaria prone areas. Malaria is a major public health problem in Tripura and focal disease outbreaks are of frequent occurrence.

Despite of taking several initiatives by the State Government in the Malaria prone areas, even today people are getting affected with the Malaria mosquito.

According to the report till August 31 of the year 2015, altogether 22, 562 people are attacked by the Malaria virus and a total of 16 people died.

Despite of several tall claims by the authority that the number of death has been decreased by 50 percent, common people has been losing their life due to the Malaria outbreak.

It is to be mentioned here that where the authority has instructed for spraying DDT in the major areas, the same AMC is allegedly unable to keep the battala are clean where huge amount of garbage are dumped and creates a dirty environment.

Where it is the duty of the AMC to keep the city clean most of the time the Battala area remains dirty and smelly. It has been seen that the AMC garbage carrying truck always carries the garbage during the office time which creates problem for the vehicles as well as for the commuters.
