Uncertainty looms large over the commencement of the Kailashahar Aerodrome

AGARTALA, April 4 (TIWN): Despite of several initiatives taken to commence the flight service at one started Kailashahar Airport, it seems like uncertainty looms large over the initiatives taken for the most awaited dream of the common mass of Kailashahar.

Locals claimed that the lack lustre attitude of the State Government has left the once started Kailashahar Airport to turn into barren land.

It is to be mentioned here that with the commencement of the Airport the locals would have highly benefited. They could have board flights to Kolkata from Kailashahar itself. However, at present they had to cover long distance to Agartala to board a flight to Kolkata or to anywhere.

Located at Durgapur area under Kailashahar sub-division, the aerodrome now left in a deplorable condition due to the negligence of State Government and proper intervention.

The airport established in the 60th century with small aircraft service now remains closed for many years due to lack of passengers.

It is to be mentioned here that way back in the year 2011, Airport Authority of India had visited the Kailashahar airport with an aim to re-open it, however, after passage of years no up gradation is reported in the airport rather is has become a spot for the cattle’s to graze.

According to the sources report, District Magistrate and Collector (DM) Mrinal Kanti Nath have sent a proposal to the state Transport Department in regard of the acquisition of 70 acres of land.

Although the Agartala Airport Director visited the Kailashahar Aerodrome till day no progress of work has seen observed yet.

It is to be mentioned here that earlier it was said that initiatives are going on to in full-fledged manner in order to facilitate the people.

Every time any high official visits the airport assures to re-start the prolonged stopped airport but till day no progress has been observed on the commencement of the Kailashahar Airport.

However, the issue of the commencement of the airport was raised many times to the State Government, but despite of passage of several years the State Government is least bothered about it.

If Kailashahar airport is made operational, Unakoti district will have direct connectivity with Kolkata, Guwahati, South Assam and many other parts of the North-eastern region.
