AGARTALA, April 2 (TIWN) : With the onset of rainy season, the NH-44 has turned horrible across Tripura-Assam. However the Assam-Agartala road, which is suffering from poor maintenance since decades, has turned worst after few splashes of rains. More than 100 vehicles are stranding on the road from Assam to Agartala. Reportedly, the Assam-Agartala road which suffers from lack of maintenance has made the journey risky in these 2 days’ rain. As a result, the vehicles which were bringing vegetables or fruits, including fishes are rotting inside the trucks. Resentment has been brewed among the vehicle drivers. The scenario of NH-44 says that no filling work has been done on that part and the Lowairpoa area is the most affected area due to the poor maintenance held by Assam Govt. It’s to be mentioned here under the PWD Dept. Tripura’s NH-44 and other roads have become the worse-ever road way in Tripura’s history. Not only here, but observing the condition of NH-44 in Tripura, experts have always said that this is the most pathetic condition of Highway in the whole country.

Crores and crores have been sanctioned for this NH-44, but PWD has no concern to bring out any permanent solution of the road.

However, it’s to be mentioned here that after the Ministry of Road Transport and Highway (MoRTH) handover development and maintenance of 104 km of the Assam Agartala National Highway (NH-44) to the PWD on September 2013, the condition of the NH-44 is worsening day-by-day due to negligence of PWD.

However, the charge  of this roadway has been again taken back by the central govt announced in 2016 January the under the initiative known as North-East Road Sector Development Scheme (NERSDS) the government will upgrade over 1,000 km of roads and inter-state highways in the region.  The National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL) will be the project implementing agency for this job.

But at present, due to the pathetic condition of NH-44, more than 100 vehicles are stranding over NH-44 road.
