UDAIPUR, Jan 21 (TIWN): Along with the whole state, Udaipur sub-division also celebrated the Statehood Day with colorful function.
The programme was inaugurated by Deputy Director of Education Department Laxman Das in the presence of Tinku Biswas, Deputy Director of ICA, IS of Schools Somnath Chakraborty, Head Masters of the schools and others.
Students from various schools also participated at the programme.
The erstwhile princely state Tripura merged with India in October 15, 1949 and later it became full-fledged state on January 21, 1972. It is to be mentioned here that the States became Union territories before getting the status of full-fledged states
The day is marked as the day when the union territory of Tripura finally attained statehood on January 21, 1972.
Under the North Eastern Region (Re-organisation) Act, 1971, Tripura, Manipur and Meghalaya became full-fledged states Jan 21, 1972.
To mark the celebration, Governor Tathagata Roy has inaugurated a programme in the State’s capital.
The State Tripura is bordered by Bangladesh (East Bengal) to the north, south, and west, and the Indian states of Assam and Mizoram to the east. It was the independent princely state of the Tripuri Kingdom under the protectorate of the British Empire which was known as Hill Tippera
However, the modern Tripura state was earlier ruled by the Tripuri dynasty for several centuries.
