AGARTALA, January 19 (TIWN): Waiting for prolonged many days, finally the travellers using the National Highway especially from Churaibari to Lowerpoa can take a smooth journey as the construction work is set to start from the month of January.Taking to TIWN correspondent, Executive Engineer of PWD, National Highway Division, Karimganj Malay Deb on Tuesday said though the construction work of the National Highway is suspended at present but very short the construction agency will take over the work.Mentioning about the beginning of the work, Executive Engineer of PWD, Karimganj Malay Deb said that by the month of January it is expected that the construction work of the National Highway will begin.However, at present the newly appointed construction agency is setting up their equipments in the construction site. So with the completion of the work of setting up the equipments and other necessary work the construction agency will begin their work.Besides, he also stated that the work was shut for some period of time as the department has changed the construction agency. Therefore, it got delayed but very shortly the construction agency will take over the work and the construction will run in full-fledged manner.

After huge doldrums regarding the poor condition of the NH-44 especially from Lowerpoa to Churaebari, the Assam government has finally taken the initiative to look into the matter.

Worst is the condition of road from Lowerpoa upto Assam gate Churaibari. It may halt communication between Assam and Tripura anytime. 

However, the construction work of the National Highway till Churraibari is completed and maintenance work is going on.

The condition of these stretches of the highways has become so bad that in some patches these have turned into virtual craters. In fact, the deplorable condition of these national highways has led to resentment amongst local people, with the demand for their maintenance growing and intensifying.

The condition of the NH44 has changed from bad to worse due to the lack of maintenance of the road.

If the road is not repaired in the dry season the road will be left totally paralysed in the coming days, as a result the vehicles have to travel through such terrible route.

However, with the renovation of the National Highway the people who travel through this route will find relax during the journey.The commuters do not have to face harassment while crossing the route.

Car and two-wheeler users are the most affected. The bad condition of the roads results in many minor accidents and heavy traffic jam in several places. However, with the renovation of the National Highway the pathetic condition faced by the commuters, soon to change.
