Kamalpur: Noagaon left without any post office for almost a year

KAMALPUR, Jan 19 (TIWN): The Small Savings embezzlement at Noagaon branch post office loomed large over the inhabitants of Noagaon under Kamalpur sub-division. The villagers not only underwent harassment regarding their deposits but also passing time without any post office at the locality. It resulted into great inconvenience regarding the timely receive and departure of letters, money orders and parcels. And the scenario prevailed for almost a year.

During January-February 2015, the huge embezzlement got unearthed at the Noagaon branch post office at Noagaon under Kamalpur Post office here at Kamalpur. The two employees of the branch office namely Anita Dey, the Branch Postmaster and the contingency staff Manjugopal Bhattacharjee became the prime accused. The ruling party CPI-M created much pandemonium regarding the issue. The depositors also knocked the authority several times. All those resulted into the jail and then bail of Manjugopal Bhattacahrjee. Anita Dey had to deposit 3, 00, 000 of rupees. And the depositors having deposit of less than 5, 000 rupees started to get back their deposits in installments, from the eve of the Puja in 2015. However, the fate of the depositors with more than 5, 000 rupees not finalized yet.

In this context, the commoners of Noagaon had to undergo acute harassment for their letters, money orders and parcels. They had to make contact with the Kamalpur Post Office for obtaining the same. And several times many villagers not even knew about their matters waiting for them. Many villagers had not able to know about their insurance cheques, important official letters and other matters and naturally those were sent back to the sender. Now it not became clear to the villagers, as why the authority not starting the branch once again at the village.
