TPCC calls for 12-hour strike: around 200 picketers arrested at Kailashahar

AGARTALA, Jan 18 (TIWN): Kailashahar police on Monday arrested around two hundred picketers and kept them in Kailashahar town hall which considered as temporary jail for strike purpose. Reportedly, two hundred picketers were arrested under the leadership of Kailashahar PCC President Badar-udh-Jaman, during the 12-hour long strike called by the Tripura Pradesh Congress committee on Monday. PCC members Rudrendu Bhattacharjee, Youth Congress Vice-President Nirmal Malakar, Former PCC Member Bikash Sharma and others were present. Responding to the 12-hour long strike all the shops were observed shut and no vehicles have been observed moving on the streets. It is to be mentioned here that the Committee is going to stage 12-hour long strike in three districts which include Unakoti, Dhalai and North District. The 12-hour long strike has been called in the three districts over 20 charters of demands for the betterment of the area. Reportedly, Government office which includes Kailashahar court and Municipal Council office remained open.However, the congress leaders stated that the strike is being called in demand to establish railway division at Dharmanagar, to extend the area of the Kailashahar Airport for the betterment of the people, to continue the service at the Kamalpur Airport, to establish new block at Fatikrai, to set up fire extinguisher at Chailengta. The 20 charter of demands also includes- to provide land to the families to urged for land under Forest Act, also to construct houses for the beneficiary families under IAY, to take initiatives for the families who had invested their money in chit fund companies and lost, to set CBI investigation over the prolonged embezzlement of crores of fund at block level in the name of development.

Besides, the demands also include to take strict initiatives to curb growing domestic violence and crime against women. Besides, many other demands have been placed.

Amidst tight security, the 12-hour long strike called by Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee is observed in full force in all the three Districts.

Huge number of Tripura State Rifles and police has been deployed to keep strict vigilance in the area to avoid any kind of untoward incidents in the area.

However, keeping eye on the upcoming village committee election, TPCC is all set to raise voice against the rising embezzlement.
