AGARTALA, Jan 12 (TIWN): Despite of several tall claims by the Ministerial Authority of fast development in the State, yet in the dry season several families in the interior have to suffer from the acute water crisis.

Reportedly, many interior localities in Tripura are facing acute drinking water crisis mainly caused by the dry spell.

Though demands were placed to the authority take initiatives to solve the issue but yet the people had to walk miles to fetch water.

Reportedly, people of the interior parts of the State had to walk several kilometres just to fetch a bucket of water. As one bucket of water is not enough for the whole family the people had to cover long distance for many time.

However, even today most of the people in the interior part of the state have not accessed to clean and safe drinking water.

In most of the hilly areas, people suffer from water borne diseases as they take water from streams and other water bodies.

The problem of water scarcity is a growing one in the rural Tripura, and the areas under the Dhalai District like Govindabari, the areas under the Longthorai Valley, Jampuijala, Takarjala, Manikpur, Narayansingh Ruazapara and other tribal dominated areas are lacking pure and safe drinking water.

It is to be mentioned here that it is not the money that prevents state government focusing on supply of drinking water but lack of interest and infrastructure.

Acute scarcity of safe drinking water in the interior is not a recent issue but the State Government is least bothered to keep keen eye on the deprived areas.

On the other hand, despite of taking several initiatives to curb the rising pollution on the Howrah River, the authority fails to launch any full-fledged programme.

Dumping of human excreta and solid waste has immensely resulted to the pollution of the river water. Continuous cleaning of clothes, washing of utensils and bathing of the cattle is the major source of the pollution.

Reportedly, the river water is getting polluted day by day in the capital due the regular dumping of garbage over the river or on the bank which later roll down and fall in to the river leading to water pollution.

People in the surrounding dump all the waste in the rivers, even the shops near by the rivers dump the garbage in to the river.

Besides, the water pollution at the Howrah River is now at such a high level that the amount of toxins, chemicals and other dangerous bacteria found in the river are now almost threatening a danger to the lives of the people.
