2nd day of Tripura Assembly's winter session kick-starts on stormy note: Opposition walks out; CPI-M's apathy prevent raising important State issues

AGARTALA, Jan 11 (TIWN): The short winter session of Tripura Assembly began on a stormy note on Monday, as opposition parties led by Congress staged a walkout after being denied permission to raise various issues. Amidst the question hour, leaders of the opposition party were on their feet in the well and sought a chance to raise various issues, which was not accepted by the Speaker Ramendra Chandra Debnath. Ruckus marked the second day of the 9th assembly session on Monday when different information were produced by Law minister Tapan Chakraborty and Home Minister Manik Sarkar on the issue of the conviction rate under IPC case in the state. It was witnessed that when Opposition leader Ratan Lal Nath raised the question regarding the present status of the conviction rate of IPC case in the state, both Minister Tapan Chakraborty and home minister Manik Sarkar gave different data on the issue which instantly raised controversy in the assembly.Opposition alleged biased attitude against the speaker of the assembly Ramendra Chandra Debnath and stated that speaker is biased towards the CPI-M party and is supporting the ruling party in the assembly hour sitting in the chair of a speaker. Opposition leader Sudip Roy Barman stated that being speaker of the assembly one should be neutral and biased attitude is not acceptable and then the opposition staged walk out from the assembly.

The opposition congress alleged “biased attitude” of Speaker    Ramendra Chandra Debnath    in the House before walking out of the Assembly during the second day of winter session of assembly.

The entire opposition walked out but returned a little later to continue with the rest of the listed business.

However, Governor of Tripura Tathagata Roy kicked off the winter session of the State Assembly on Friday at 11 a.m. at State Assembly House of Capital Complex.

As per the regulation the first day of the session began with the speech of Governor Tathagata Roy.

The assembly session will continue for five days, except Saturday and Sunday from January 8 till January 14. It is expected that the assembly will table vote-on-account and place a new bill-‘Indian system of Medicine-2016.

The first day of the session witnessed serious revolt by the Monaranjan issue at the assembly.
