KAILASHAHAR, Jan 11 (TIWN): Chief Minister Manik Sarkar where takes luxuries chopper ride to cover 90 kilometres of distance, the historical crafted sculptures of Unakoti is gradually losing it glory due to the apathy and negligence of State Government. State Government where claims that Tripura is developing faster than any other state, on the other hand due to the negligence of the authority the historical crafted sculptures of Unakoti is gradually losing its glory. Tourist including foreigners where seems enthusiastic to visit the century old archaeological site ‘Unakoti’, the lacklustre attitude of the State Government left the place in a poor condition. The condition of the stairs of Unakoti is in very poor condition as a result several times tourists slipped from the stairs. Most of the stairways are so slippery during rainy season that people had to sit and step-down carefully to avoid fatal accidents. Every year more than thousands of tourists visit the area just to have a glance of the beauty of the century old sculpture. Most of the time people conducts picnic but the State Government is least bothered to safeguard the beauty of the historical crafted sculptures.

Reportedly, the area lacks any particular picnic spots and any place to rest. Therefore, tourist cannot visits

Several times the people of Unakoti approached to the tourism authority and demanded the proper maintenance to save the world famous heritage but yet today no initiatives have been taken to save the sculpture.

It is to be mentioned here that situated at a distance of about 177 km from Agartala and about five miles from Kailasahar, sub-divisional headquarter of the state, this holy shrine in the hilly part nestles in the lap of picturesque hills with an unending scene of green vegetation around it.

In its rocky walls are found numerous rock-cut images scattered on either side of the hill track.

Among the rock cut carvings, central Shiva head known as Unakotiswara Kal Bhairava is about 30 feet high including an embroidered head-dress which itself is 10 feet high. On each side of the head-dress of the central Shiva, there are two full size female figures - one of Durga standing on a lion and another female figure on the other side.

Every year a big fair popularly known as Ashokastami Mela is held in the month of April which is visited by thousands of pilgrims.

However, where the State Government never bothers in wasting the ‘public money’ and ‘scam earned cash’ in the name of election campaign and to cover 90 kilometre distance in chopper, for prolonged several years the State Government does not get time to provide keen eye to the century old archaeological site.

It is to be mentioned here that if the historical site would have been maintained and taken care than it would not only increased the tourist but would also have helped to raise revenue from the tourist which would have benefited the State. On the other hand, the century old sculpture would have regained its lost beauty.
