CM Manik Sarkar inaugurates 18th Annual Conference of All Tripura Diabetic forums

AGARTALA, Jan 10 (TIWN): Chief Minister Manik Sarkar inaugurated the 18th annual conference of All Tripura Diabetic Forums (ATDF) held at Nazrul Kalakshetra on Sunday.

The opening function of the conference was graced by Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, AMC Mayor Prafullajit Sinha, and other senior officials. 

Addressing the gathering, chief minister stated that health and education are an essential pre-requisite for development of all aspects of human life. Even the state government spent highest budget for the development of health and education section of the society.

He further said that medical professionals need to upgrade and update their knowledge and skills continuously. The main objective of the conference was to seek measures to prevent diabetes mellitus by propagating more and more scientific information and creating awareness regarding change of life style causing obesity and diabetes.

Sarkar further added that the ongoing conference would go a long way in achieving the aims and objectives of the society.

The global burden for type 2 diabetes mellitus for 2012 was 295 million people and it was projected to increase to 438 million people in 2030, a 65 per cent increase. For India, this increase was estimated to be 58 per cent from 51 million people in 2010 to 87 million people in 2030.

Observing that the impact of type 2 diabetes mellitus may be considered as a lifelong disease, Mr. Sarkar noted that the disease and its complications caused a heavy economic burden for the diabetic patients themselves, their families and society.

A better understanding about the cause of predisposition of Indians to get type 2 diabetes mellitus is necessary for future planning of healthcare, policy and delivery in order to ensure that burdens of the disease are addressed.

Apart CM Manik Sarkar also awarded to the two best controlled Diabetes patients.

Changed lifestyles, altered food habits and environmental change add to the risk of this ailment. The Forum can play a very effective role in creating awareness among the general masses about this disease. It is necessary to educate the society about the method of preventive aspects, early detection, treatment and care of a diabetic patient, added Sarkar.
