KAMALPUR, Jan 10 (TIWN): The so-called and trumpeted demands of development used to come under the scanner of suspicion and proper implementation time and again. And the works under MGNERGA works became the prime sector of debate.

Almost every work in the remote parts and districts under MGNREGA remained in the captions of media. But, mysteriously enough, the central delegation found the jobs in the selected areas and never witness the ground reality at the remote parts. Hence, the state somehow managed the ranks and awards. But the reality lied in the fact that, the works under MGNREGA turned into a machinery of money gobbling.

Such a work got found in the ward no 5 of Noagaon panchayat under Durgachowmuhani RD Block at this sub-division. In that ward, a work of land levelling got allotted against one Santosh Ghosh. And for this an amount of 45, 989 got allotted against 267 man days. The work got allotted in 2015-16 fiscal and the work order got issued on 9^th September last year. The implementing officer, GRS Taj Uddin had completed the work within the stipulated period. He also showed the amount as expensed.

But, the question arose as how such huge amount of money could be expensed for such a small patch of land. Further, the owner of the land, although expressed his satisfaction over the work but could not clarify about the expense. Speculations arose from within the panchayat that, not only in the case of this work but in every work of land levelling, embezzlement got to happen. And in every panchayat the scenario remained the same for years. Still, the preachers of clean administration remain numbed up as the embezzlement got to increase the party fund.
