AGARTALA, Dec 22 (TIWN): Tripura experiences the shivering cold as the minimum temperature continues to fluctuate between 8 and 9 degree Celsius.

Meteorological forecast predicts that the sky to remain partly cloudy and the morning will be foggy.

A thick blanket of fog accompanied by icy winds left people in the city shivering in the early hours. The maximum temperature in the last 24 hours was recorded hovering around 25 degree Celsius, which is normal.

The meteorological forecast also said that day temperatures are set to fall in Tripura with the weather taking a turn for the worse as another cold spell approaches.

Colder days will follow rapidly, he warned.

However, he also said that there is no chance of rainfall in the state in the coming days but the minimum temperature will further fall.

The Met office predicts clear sky for the next day. "The sky would remain clear throughout the day and the maximum temperature is likely to hover around 22.2 degrees Celsius," a weather official said.

Tripura had recorded its lowest temperature in winter at 2° C in 1972.

Mostly during the winter season, life observed crippled across the state because of the chill and attendance seem to get poor in most schools and government offices. The streets wore a deserted look and business establishments were closed.

Generally, in Tripura winter starts from November. This year it has started from the month of December.

Weathermen however said the chill in the wind can't yet be felt as the maximum temperatures have stayed high. The forecast predict that in the next 24 hours the minimum temperatures would hover around 7 degree Celsius.

The met department has predicted similar weather conditions for Tuesday with morning fog giving way to a clear sky later in the day.
