Teliamura infant death case: Congress observes 12 hour strike

AGARTALA / TELIAMURA, Dec 21 (TIWN): Demanding strict action against the accused doctor Pritam Debnath for his alleged negligence in the treatment of an infant, the congress observed 12 hour strike on Monday at Teliamura under tight security.

Amidst tight security, the 12 hour strike called by congress is observed in full force at Teliamura.

The people of Teliamura are mostly responding to the bandh. However, the congress leaders stated that the strike is being called in demand of the strict punishment of the doctor who is solely responsible for the death of the 45 day old child at a rural hospital in Teliamura.

Here it may be noted that the strike has disrupted the normal life in the state and most of the shops are closed down at Teliamura and no vehicles movement is seen at Teliamura.

Security has been tightened all over Teliamua to prevent any untoward incident in connection with the twelve hour strike called by Congress.

Police sources confirmed that numbers of picketers are arrested from different spots.

However, it is to be mention here that, demanding strict action against the accused doctor the congress has called for this strike at Teliamura.

Reportedly, the death of the 45 day old infant at Teliamura due to the negligence of the doctor in providing treatment has sparked off a widespread resentment among relatives of the deceased as well common people who have blockaded the national highway for three times. Angry people ransacked the hospital seeking immediate arrest of culprit doctor- Pritam Debbarma triggering panic prompting the administration to seek police intervention. Getting alarm, PCC Chief Birajit Sinha, opposition leader Sudip Roy Barman rushed to the spot, meet the victim family and assured that they will look into the matter.

The deceased is identified as Subhabrata Debbarma (45-day old) who was admitted to Teliamura Rural Hospital with high fever by his father Biplab Debnath. After arriving at hospital, Biplab and his wife Jhuma spotted doctor on duty Dr. Pritam Debbarma was in long telephonic session. Even after several request the doctor did not show any interest to treat the doctor.  Angry relatives ransacked at the premises of the hospital to cater the attention of the doctor.

Huge police was deployed to bring the situation under control and finally demanding strict action against the accused the opposition congress has called for strike at Telimaura and assured that they will seek to provide justice to the family member of the deceased.

However, demanding strict action against the doctor congress has called for 12 hour strike at Teliamura.
