TET's maiden voyage in Tripura : High Court verdict forced Manik's Govt to toe Central Govt guidelines

AGARTALA, Dec 21 (TIWN): For the first time National Council for Teachers (NCTE) mandated Teachers’ Eligibility Test has been conducted in the State on Monday. Candidates all across the State were observed queues up for the exam in front of the examination halls to enter. Reportedly, two session of exams have been conducted. The first session which for the candidates aspiring to become Teachers in primary (class I -V) has started from morning 9:30 am to 12:00 pm. Besides, the second session for the aspiring candidates of upper primary (VI-VIII) has initiated from 1 pm to 3:30 pm in 8 different centres of the 8 districts. However, 353 candidates were recorded for primary (class I -V) and 1862 candidates were recorded for of upper primary (VI-VIII), informed Exam Controller Prattosh Ranjan Dey. It is to be mentioned here that altogether in eight centres have been identified for exam in eight different districts.The Teachers’ Recruitment Board Tripura (TRBT) being constituted by the government of Tripura prepares to conduct the much awaited Teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET) in the state.

The examination would be of 200 marks and the questions will be of multiple choice. However, after conducting the TET-I and TET II, teacher’s recruitment board will prepare a roll of list. According to the official report, candidates can appear for the TET exam only for three times after that they will not be allowed to seat for exam.

After conducting the TET, the Teachers’ Recruitment Board (TRB) would publish a merit list and send the copy to the government for filling up the posts of teacher.

It is to be mentioned here that a total of 3000 vacant posts of graduate teacher are lying idle and through the TET examination there will be fresh recruitment for the vacant posts. 

Besides, there are a total of 6000 posts of Under-Graduate to Post-Graduate teachers are lying vacant in the department whish will also be recruited through TET.

However, the number of vacant posts could be increased at the time of the Teachers’ Eligibility Test.

It is for the first time that the state government is going to appoint teachers by conducting TET examination which is a mandatory provision of Right to education Act.

The board will function as per the formalities laid down by the central regulating authorities. Tripura TET is for the candidates aspiring to become teachers in primary (class I -V) and upper primary (VI-VIII) schools in the state of Tripura.

However, OMR sheets have been provided to the candidates to answer their question and two and half hours have been permitted for the exam. Besides, one has to secure at least 60 per cent marks to pass the TET examination i.e. 90 marks out of the total of 150 marks.
