State to conduct the oath taking ceremony on Monday

AGARTALA, Dec 20 (TIWN): The District Magistrate and collectors to administer the oath taking ceremony on Monday at Rabindra Bhawan for the newly elected member of the AMC.

It is to be mentioned here that the formation of the new AMC, MCs, and NPs is already and preparation is on the peak for the Oath taking ceremony.

The District Magistrate and Collectors (DMs) are being asked to initiate process of oath taking ceremony of civic bodies.

CPI-M state secretary Bijan Dhar in a press meet said that Dr. Prafullajit Sinha will once again take oath as mayor of 49 seated Agartala Municipal corporations (AMC).  

He further said that, Samar Chakrabarty will be the deputy Mayor of 49 seated Agartala Municipal corporations (AMC) for next five consecutive years.

After securing the landslide victory in the just concluded polls to altogether 20 civic bodies including AMC, the left has already chosen their favourable candidates and is all set to take oath on December 21 at Rabindra Bhawan.

Tripura's ruling Left Front led by the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) on Saturday swept the civic polls across the state, winning all the 20 local government bodies, including Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC).

The Left parties retained the 49-member AMC for the fourth consecutive term while the Left Front retained the 12 municipal councils and all six nagar panchayats.

Elections were held to the 144-years-old Agartala Municipal Corporation, 13 municipal councils and five nagar panchayats in Tripura on Wednesday. Around 89 percent of the 537,968 electorate voted in the polls in Left-ruled Tripura.

In all, 886 candidates, including 429 women, from all parties contested the politically important civic polls.

CPI-M nominee and Mayor of the outgoing AMC, Prafullajit Sinha, Deputy Mayor Samar Chakraborty as well as candidates Fulan Bhattacharjee, Gargi Roy Chowdhury and Biswanath Saha (Forward Bloc) are the notable winners in the AMC while Congress' mayor candidate Amar Ranjan Gupta and prominent leaders Basana Debnath and Panna Deb are among those who lost in the polls.
