AGARTALA / UDAIPUR, Dec 15 (TIWN): In a bizarre incident, one day old infant boy was rescued from adjacent area of Amarpur hospital on Monday late night.
The one-day-old boy was rescued from a roadside on Tuesday evening by few people. A passerby took a closer look and revealed an abandoned newborn baby.
Few people who were walking by the hospital road found the body wrapped in a polythene bag and alerted police.
However, the locals have immediately informed the police and the Udaipur Child help line rescued the baby boy and took to the infant to the child help line centre. Getting alarm the official of Birganj police also reached the spot
It is to be mention here that so far no details are recovered yet regarding the baby boy rescued from the road side. However, it is expected that some unmarried woman who became pregnant has discarded the child.
Later on Wednesday morning the child help line society handed over the responsibly of the infant to the child home.
However, police said "We have not yet been able to locate the parents and are checking the list of recent deliveries in Amarpur sub divisional hospital," said an investigating officer. Maternity hospitals in the locality have been alerted and asked to inform police if any woman had left the hospital soon after delivery.
A one day old boy abandoned Amarpur hospital and was rescued after his cries alerted the localities of the area.
The infant, who was discarded within a day after being born, was found with no clothes on and had injuries in her body.
The boy weighing 2.3 kg was in a critical condition when he was found lying on a block of stone by the roadside, police sources said quoting eye witnesses.
The infant’s mother has not been traced. It is not clear what led to the baby in the latest case being abandoned, or whether the preference of many people in the region could also be a factor.
Police is further investigating the case.
