TIWN
KAMALPUR, Dec 13 (TIWN): Almost a year ago, the Salema Agricultural sub-division came under the spotlight for unearthing of huge embezzlement of almost 46, 00, 000 rupees in the Putiacharra NWDPRA scheme by the implementing officer Pradip Roy. The embezzlement was unearthed by a citizen-cum-beneficiary of the scheme namely Sudip Ghosh by RTI filing. He also organized a non-political forum namely “Deprived Beneficiary’ United Forumâ€. After their vigorous movement, the CPI-M also staged movement and demanded the stringent conviction of that corrupt official, who actually belonged to the leftist employees’ organization.
Then the department started investigation and found that officer guilty of embezzlement of 6, 32, 000 rupees. Then without adopting any legal action, the department ordered that official to pay back the amount and it’s too without interest. Accordingly, Pradip Roy deposited 3, 32, 000 rupees two months’ ago and sought time for four months to pay back the rest of the amount. The CPI-M party also numbed up in this issue. On the other hand, the forum planned to start movement shortly.
The question arose here remained that, if a corrupt officer just paid back the embezzled amount then all his faults forgotten. And what about the interest and the loss of revenue incurred to the government? Most importantly, if Pradip Roy rescued conviction became the question of the hour.
