AGARTALA, Nov 19 (TIWN): Tripura’s aim to emerge as the Third internet gateway to get delayed by few more months as BSNL is yet failure in laying the sub-marine cables.The much waited project of Internet Bandwidth from Bangladesh’s submarine cable for the up gradation of the internet services of the State seems to get more delayed by few months as the authority has failed to lay the submarine cable line upto Aukhaura.Talking to TIWN correspondent on Thursday DGM (CFA) U.C. Bhowmick said that it will require some more time to get a stable network as the process to lay submarine cable line up to Akhaura is not yet satisfactory.He further said that Telecom Ministry, which is supposed to supply equipments to BSNL Tripura SSA has failed to do it till the date leading to unnecessary delay in the exaction. Besides, the cable connecting Agartala with BSNL’s exchange is yet to get started as the vender doesn’t machinery to lay underground cable.IT is to be mentioned here that union Communication and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad laid the foundation stone for an international internet gateway through Cox's Bazar in Bangladesh.

Agartala, Tripura's capital city, would be the third international internet gateway in India after Mumbai and Chennai.

India-Bangladesh surplus under-sea internet bandwidth (10 Gbps) sale agreement was signed during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s historic June 2015 visit to Dhaka in presence of Hon. Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina

India and Bangladesh signed pact on sharing Internet bandwidth as a result of which the submarine cable providing Net to Bangladesh will travel to Agartala from Cox's Bazar via Brahmanbaria. 

Bangladesh has agreed to sell off its unused submarine Internet bandwidth to India's state owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) for $ 1.2 million ( Rs 7.7 crores) a year.

The agreement will be for four years and India will gain 10 Gbps (gigabits per second) bandwidth in the first year with a provision for this to go up to 40 Gbps per second in the subsequent years. India is going for purchasing this surplus unused bandwidth from Bangladesh to develop the IT industry in Northeast.

Agartala could emerge as the hub of the IT industry in Northeast India if the State Government moves fast enough to create necessary infrastructures. Tripura will get 10Gbps (Giga bits per second) Internet Band With from Bangladesh’s submarine cable for the up gradation of the internet services of the State.

As per the guideline, equipments which are used in setting up for international gateway submarine cable require to the supply to BSNL Tripura SSA at the earliest.

High bandwidth Internet is a must for survival of every sector of IT Industry as it needs to connect to worldwide over Internet 24x7 365 days a year.  Seamless internet connectivity, uninterrupted power is basic necessity for developing a successful IT Hub.
