AGARTALA, Oct 30 (TIWN): State Government is looking forward to re-launch the meter auto on the roads of the capital.

Reportedly, as a part of experimental process, the Transport Department is providing permit to hundred meter auto to run their service on the Municipal area of the capital.

Transport Department has asked the applicant to collect their permit by October 31.

Meanwhile, a proposal has been given to the State Government to re-decide the auto fare, said sources. However, the fare of the meter auto is yet to be decided.

According to the sources of the Transport Department, the idea of re-launching the meter has been taken after the Tripura High Court has ordered. Stepping ahead with the order altogether 100 auto rickshaws will be allow to run on the roads as a part of the experimental process.

After successful implementation of the project more auto rickshaws would be converted into meter autos as per contract carriage system.

However, for the permit of meter auto rickshaw altogether 1700 application has been received by the Department. Among these entire applicants only 100 auto rickshaws will get the permits. Only the vehicle owner who will ride their own vehicle and class-8 pass will get the permit.

Reportedly, the 100 vehicle owner has already been listed and the process of providing permit will begin soon.

However, as per report for the last 8-year new permits has been stopped. Resulting, most of the auto rickshaw left out of permit has been rushing for the permits.

It has to be mentioned here that nearly 40 meter auto rickshaw permit has been distributed 8-year earlier. But the initiative was not fruitful. And within few days the meter auto rickshaw has been taken off.

It has been decided that with the installation of the meter auto rickshaw the passenger has to give fare as per the meter rate. Therefore, the Auto Rickshaw Union is gladly welcoming the initiative of meter auto.
