State remembers Sister Nivedita on her Birth Anniversary

AGARTALA, Oct 28 (TIWN): On the occasion of Birth Anniversary of Sister Nivedita on Wednesday, Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Bhanu Lal Saha offered floral tribute at the premises of Nivedita Sangha, Bhattapukur.

To mark the day, the organization organized a blood donation camp. A total of 26 people donated their blood. Besides, the organization took the initiatives for distributing cloths among the poor people.

Altogether 40 people were given cloths.

Addressing the crowd, Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Bhanu Lal Saha appreciated the initiatives taken by the organization. Besides, he also said that donating blood donation has become a festival.

It is appreciable that people are voluntarily coming forward to donate blood said Minister Bhanu Lal Saha.

Swami Vivekananda formally initiated Margaret in the vow of Brahmacharya (lifelong celibacy) and gave her the name of "Nivedita", the dedicated one on 25 March 1898. She became the first Western woman to be received into an Indian monastic order.

Bhagini (Sister) Nivedita was born Margaret Elizabeth Noble in the year 1867, October 28. She was a Scots-Irish social worker, author, teacher and a disciple of Swami Vivekananda. She spent her childhood and early days of her youth in Ireland.

Sister Nivedita took her last on 13 October in the year 1911.
