DM West imposed section 144 of IPC at Mohanpur Indo-Bangla border area

Agartala, Oct 9 (TIWN): To ensure safe and secured stay of the people located along the border fence of Mohanpur sub-division area and Sadar area, the West district administration has imposed section 144 of IPC around 500 meter along the Indo-Bangla border to maintain security in the border adjacent area. As per the law, whoev­er walks along the border side from night 8 PM to morning 5 AM, being armed with any deadly weapon, or with anything which are used as weapons of offence, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both under 188 of IPC.

In view of the increased issue of smuggling and terrorist activities in different parts of the border area the DM (West) Millind Ramteke has imposed the section 144 of IPC to curb the crime rate at the border adjacent areas.

However, Section 144 empowers the Magistrate to prohibit the unlawful assembly of more than 5 people in a group. This is especially imposed to stop the sudden outbreak of riots especially by a group of armed people having a common motive to disrupt public peace and tranquillity. The Act consists of 484 sections, 2 schedules and 56 forms. The sections are divided into 38 chapters. The maximum punishment for committing a crime under Article 144 of IPC is of an imprisonment for 2 years and or fine. All individuals involved in the group can be convicted under this Section.

West District Magistrate has taken this step for the safety and development of the district in the coming days. The law will be in operation from till January 3, 2016.

However, police personnel, Paramilitary force, and South district police super, medical personnel deployed on special duty are excluded from the imposition of this law.

Gathering of more than 4 people within the restricted areas without prior permission of the concerned authority is not allowed. And if anyone is found violating this rule will be punished under the law of 144 of IPC.
