AGARTALA, August 25 (TIWN): Finally the unruly auto-rickshaw driver identified as Litan Paul has been arrested on Monday for slapping university student identified as Meenakshi Debnath in a broad day light in the capital city after she refused to pay extra fare, said police official. At the meantime state Transport Minister Manik Dey expressing displeasure over the negligence role of city police said, “The police must have registered the FIR being lodged by the victim.”

According to the report the registration and the licence of the auto-rickshaw owned by the accused driver Litan Paul has been cancelled.

The incident occurred couple of days back in a broad day light has rocked the entire state after a university student Meenakshi Debnath has been brutally harassed by the accused driver Lital Paul.

However, triggering a serious question on the role of silent spectator being played by the state government so far the Agartala East Women Police Station Second Officer Paramita Saha was suspended from her service for refusing to register an FIR against the accused driver after Meenakshi knocked the door of PS seeking justice.

Besides, after a serious allegation has been raised the Left backed CITU organisation the government had managed to clarify that after the incident had occurred CITU had not made any contact with the government and neither the organisation moved towards seeking justice for the student being harassed by the unruly auto driver Litan Paul.

Dey said, “The CITU had not made any contact with the government and neither with me prior to the arrest of the auto driver, but we condemn such incident took place in the city.”

Despite the High Court had directed the government to put point to point rate chart in auto-rickshaws the unruly auto drivers taking an advantage of the mute spectator role state government managed to continue their mafia raj despite the fact that the daily passengers are currently under unsafe and secured zone of the Left ruled Tripura.
