AGARTALA, August 16 (TIWN): Tripura's Left Front Govt. seems to be unclear about the timeline for 100 MW Palatana power export to neighboring Bangladesh. “The project work is currently under the discussion stage and would needs some more times to get it in the track,†said Power Minister Manik Dey, despite he had said earlier that the agreement with Bangladesh Government would be signed by the month of July 2015.On July 15 State Power Minister Manik Dey said that the state government would sign the agreement with the Bangladesh government within 15 days to dispatch the 100 MW power to the country. However, being asked in this view Minister talking to TIWN at the civil secretariat said very reluctantly said that the project work is currently under the discussion stage and would need another period of time to get the agreement signed between the state government and the Bangladesh government. According to the official sources the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) authorities were recently asked to expedite the works to fulfil commitments, given to Bangladesh about supplying 100 MW of power. The state government is yet to get more formalities fixed up prior to the agreement getting signed, said the official source.
Power from Tripura will flow with the completion of 65 transmission towers in the north-eastern state by December end, said the official. He further added that Indian and Bangladeshi officials, after a series of meetings, finalised the various technicalities and mechanisms to supply 100 MW of power from Tripura.
The actual power would be dispatched from the state’s power plant Palatana OTPC, from where the power would be later dispatched from the power grid at Suryamoninagar, said official source.
The Indian government has submitted a proposal to send power from the northeast region to others parts of India via Bangladesh. “No formal decision has been taken so far in this regard,” he added.
Besides, the price of the power supposed to be exported is not yet fixed, but the officials are engaged actively to fix the price of 100 MW of power prior to start the export with the country. However, once the Bangladesh starts receiving the 100 MW of power this will be in addition to the 500 MW it already receives from West Bengal.
National Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Ltd, a subsidiary of NTPC, will fix the tariff of power, the official said.
There is scope that the transmission lines might start working by the first quarter of 2016, the official said. It is to be mentioned that all the power generating company across the country would receive about Rs 6, 00,000 crore debt from the entire country.
