AGARTALA, August 9 (TIWN): A resolution was adopted by state government requesting the Centre to release fund of MGNREGA regularly and simplify the payment of wages of the workers. The resolution was placed by CPIM – MLA Samir Deb Sarkar in assembly on Friday. It requested the centre to release fund regularly under the MGNREGA and early payment of wages to the workers. Rural Development minister Naresh Jamatia speaking in support of the resolution stated that the Centre has introduced a new system in payment of wages to the job card holders, which is a complicated one.
The minister stated that the centre has introduced EFMS system in last April to maintain transparency in payment of wages. This system is time consuming, is matter of err for all other states also.
It is mentionable here that Jamatia on Wednesday last met Union minister Birendra Singh to regularize the funds of MGNREGA in Tripura. In view of irregularity towards the wage payment to the REGA workers in Tripura under the centrally sponsored scheme of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), the state rural development department had sought the centre’s intervention towards regularizing the fund flow.
“During the month of May and June this year no wage was credited to the bank accounts of the REGA workers and to fill the gap the RD department had taken a loan of Rs. 60 crore from the state government, claimed Jamatia
However, despite the Left ruled Tripura topped in REGA implementation in the entire nation for the last 5 financial year, the irregular fund flow by the centre has hit the state very badly, in view of which the state RD Minister had sought centre’s intervention to restore the problem.
