Opposition gives new proposal for delimitation, meets DM

AGARTALA, Aug 6 (TIWN): Opposition on Thursday slammed the draft of the delimitation of the civic bodies by the ruling movement and gave a new proposal for delimitation of civic bodies and gheraud DM office.

Alleging discrepancy in the delimitation of the civic bodies, opposition on Thursday hold a protest rally which moved across several parts of the city, gheraud DM office demanding modifications in the draft publication of the delimitation of the civic bodies which was done according to constructive position of the ruling party, alleged congress.

Opposition leader Sudip Roy Barman said that the delimitation is done illegally without considering the economy, geographical location and population of the areas.

He also alleged that the draft is totally manipulated and done under the track laid by the ruling government, ruling party has used their powers to prepare the delimitation of civic bodies, alleged Sudip.

However, congress has submitted an alternative proposal for the delimitation and has asked the DM Millind Ramteke to look into the matter.

As claimed by the congress, the wards are bifurcated in such a way that it has divided the vote bank of the area. For instance 3 new wards are being driven out from ward number 10 and 11 which would seriously hamper the vote bank of the opposition party, added Barman.

In the process of the delimitation of civic bodies, it was found that the delimitation was done according to the wish of the ruling party and the administration officials has supported the decision with the intention to save their chair, alleged congress leader.

It is to be mention here that Wards in Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) and eight municipal council out of 13 - have been increased.  The number of AMC seats would be increased from 35 to 49 and 18 constituencies was increased for eight municipal councils.

Accepting the proposal of the opposition DM assured to look into the matter and will take necessary action.
